Conversations with students, staff and parents will continue via phone, text and email. Please reach out if you have questions!

Post Secondary Support

Colleges and Universities are in a similar situation to us as they try to move classroom learning and lectures to an online platform. We know you have questions and are working on answers. In the meantime I have created a “What Happens Next” section just below.

Student Aid & Scholarships

Please see the ‘funding your future’ handout posted under 'workshop handouts and student resources'. If you have any questions about applying for funding please reach out! Our team of LRSD Career Practitioners is working hard to ensure the scholarship list remains accurate and up to date. The ‘scholarship list’ can be found on the ‘career services’ tab of our school website.

Career Education

Not sure what you want to do after high school? Wondering what jobs/ careers are available or what you might be interested in doing? Xello is an online platform where you can explore thousands of careers! Every LRSD student (K-12) has their own login where they can complete lessons and tasks to learn more about their individual skills and interests, and how these match up with different occupations. If you’re interested in accessing your xello account but need support please email me! I will also be posting a “xello how-to” sheet under 'workshop handouts and student resources' soon.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? POST SECONDARY FAQs

I have plans for Post Secondary in the Fall… What will that look like?

Right now there’s a lot of wonder about next year and plans for post-secondary. As communication comes available I will post it here. Click on the institute name or links below for more information as to how they're handling Covid-19.

University of British Columbia

University of Toronto

What we’re asking:

  1. Will there be changes to program prerequisites or accommodations made?
  2. If "planned to take" high school courses become unavailable or students are unable to complete current enrollments as planned, how might this affect admissions offers and scholarships? Teachers and administration are working hard to help you complete courses as planned. If you are unsure about your ability to complete your current course load you should reach out to your class teacher and administration to discuss.
  3. What resources/ supports might be available to help close the gaps in learning as a result from lost classroom instruction? Is there a possibility for Universities and Colleges to include some High School prerequisites as part of year one electives? Could additional support be offered through intensive education on campus prior to program start? Supports will be in place. This will look different at each college/ university.
  4. Will completion of diplomas be necessary for high school courses that are program prerequisites? NO
  5. Will alternate models be considered for calculating admissions averages? Somewhat... Some universities are using the marks provided at the time of application as 'final grades', others will use final class marks as determined by your teacher. It's best to check with the University you plan on attending to confirm.
  6. Will deadlines for deposits be extended? Will students be eligible for a refund if circumstances change and they are no longer able to attend?
  7. Will course registration be postponed or modified in any way? Registration dates for the Fall seem to be on schedule. Campus advisors are still available over the phone and in some cases via video chat to offer support.
  8. Will there be changes to the calculation of averages for scholarships to accommodate for courses that are no longer available or a drop in grades due to the change to an online delivery format?

Stay Informed:

  • The most current and accurate information will be on University and College websites.
  • You can expect that communication will be sent to future students via email or online through student portals as more information becomes available.
  • I will continue to post information here as it comes in. Please check back for updates.
