Awards and Scholarships

1. CUPE Local 812

  • Award given to a grade 12 graduand of the Crowsnest Consolidated High School
  • Preference will be given to a student whose parent(s) are a member of CUPE 812
  • Should there be no eligible student the award will be given to a deserving student as selected by the Awards Committee
  • Students must be entering a recognized post-secondary educational institution or trades program. Proof of admission must be submitted
  • Should there be more than one applicant eligible the selection will be based on academic standing and/or financial need
  • CUPE 812 will provide the Award Committee with a list of CUPE members each year by June 1st
  • The monetary value of the award shall be $300 and be awarded at the annual Awards Day in September each year
  • The award will be presented by a member of CUPE 812 or their designate

 2. CUPE Local 2133

  • A grade 12 student who is not receiving another award (preferable)
  • Positive attitude towards all age groups in the school and community
  • Well-rounded individual, who is compassionate, respectful, hard-working and fair
  • Student does not need to be entering a post-secondary institution to be eligible for this award

 3. Crowsnest Pass Literacy Foundation

  • Must be part of the senior high tutoring program and graduating from Crowsnest Consolidated High School

 4. Dr. Kay Kerr Scholarships

  • Graduate of Crowsnest Consolidated High School
  • Four Scholarships will be awarded in the following categories
    • Performing and Fine Arts
    • Culinary Arts
    • Business Administration
    • Hotel Restaurant Management/Tourism
  • Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis provided a student meets the criteria
  • Must be entering a recognized institution of post secondary education
  • Entering an apprenticeship program
  • Proof of admission at a post secondary institution or program
  • Selection shall be made by the Crowsnest Consolidated High School Awards Committee
  •  If there are more than one eligible student, the selection committee will base its decision on the following factors:
    • academic standing
    • if applicant is eligible for other major scholarships preference will be given to other applicants
    • financial need
    • involvement in school and community

5. Spray Lake Sawmills

  • Will be directed towards students who are pursuing a two year trades program
  • Will be based on merit but not means
  • Target students with a demonstrated work ethic in both school and community activities
  • Eligible activities include such things as:
    • extra-curricular activities
    • clubs
    • part-time employment
    • volunteer work
    • general community involvement
  • Recipient must be a Canadian citizen
  • Application and selection process to be determined by the school
  • Spray Lake Sawmills must be advised of the selection process

 6. Nippon Institute of Technology Intercultural Award

  • To recognize grade 12 graduates planning to attend post-secondary education
  • Must have demonstrated a commitment to furthering interculturalism within the Crowsnest Pass community as exemplified by:
    • participation within NITICC intercultural programs (Summer or Homestay programs)
    • participation within other community intercultural programs and activities
    • participation in programs within other cultures
    • two awards annually Male $200.00 Female $200.00

7. Eugene Fabro Academic Scholarship

  • Decision on awarding the scholarship shall be made by the awards committee at Crowsnest Consolidated High School using the following criteria:
    • Grade 12 graduating student from Crowsnest Consolidated High School who has the highest academic average on 6 Diploma Examination subjects
    • Has played an active role on student government in his or her grade 12 year
    • has been admitted to a bona fide degree granting University in the academic year following graduation
  • If there are two or more candidates, student need will prevail

 8. Coleman Legion, Coleman Legion Auxiliary, Coleman Lions, Blairmore Legion, Holy Spirit Preservation Society, Coleman Elks, Bellevue Legion, Bellevue, Legion Auxiliary, Coleman Women’s League,    Order of the Royal Purple, Order of the Eastern Star, Knights of Columbus, CCHS Leadership Award, M.D. McEachern

  • Top mark in High School courses

9. Bill Fukami Memorial Athletic Scholarship

  • Award given to two grade 12 graduants, male and female, of Crowsnest Consolidated High School
  • Entering a recognized institution of post-secondary education
  • Provide proof of admission at a post-secondary institution
  • Have been an enthusiastic and active participant in one or more of the following athletic programs at Crowsnest Consolidated High School (Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Volleyball)
  • Selections should be made by Crowsnest Consolidated High School Awards Committee
  • If there are more than one eligible student (male and female) the Selection Committee will base its decision on the following factors:
    • number of sports participating
    • academic standing
    • if an applicant is eligible for other major scholarships preference will be given to other applicants
    • financial need
  • The monetary value of the scholarships shall be $400 male and $400 female
  • The scholarships shall be presented by a member of the Fukami family or their designate

 10. Devon Jackson Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a grade 12 student of Crowsnest Consolidated High School
  • Student does not need to be entering a post-secondary institution to be eligible
  • Student possesses a positive attitude in school and community towards all age groups
  • Well-rounded individual
  • Compassionate, caring, respectful and hard-working
  • Involved in various school activities including athletics, leadership activities and fundraising
  • Maintains a good academic standing
  • Selection based on recommendation by administration and awards committee
  • Award to be presented by a member of the Jackson family
  • Value of the award shall be $1000 for a male and $1000 for a female

11. Stewart Schlender Memorial Scholarship – CN Minor Hockey

  • Must be involved with hockey in at least one of these areas:
    • coaching
    • referee
    • playing

 12. Strandquist Scholarship

  • Students that are pursuing post secondary education in Forestry, Nursing, Conservation/Environment or Engineering
  • Student with financial need
  • Grades should be a factor, but not the over-riding factor
  • Award will be no less than $1000.00

13. Goodwin Athletic Award

  • Presented to the male and female students who are selected as this years outstanding Junior High Athlete
  • The individual characteristics necessary include leadership ability, sportsmanship, improvement, dedication and a high level of performance and ability in each of the sports they participate in
  • Must also be working to their academic potential

14. Murray Capron Memorial Athletic Scholarship

  • Awarded to the male and female recipients of the top athlete awards at the Sports Banquet

15. Roy Whitehouse Memorial Scholarship

  • Top grade 12 student

16. Audrey Bonne Memorial Academic Scholarship

  • Awarded to a graduating high school student(s) pursuing full time enrolment at a university in the following fall semester to further their studies in the faculties or disciplines of Science and English.  

17. United Nursing Association

  • Must be entering post secondary for nursing

18. Rocky Mountain Optometry 

  • Awarded to a graduating high school student with a high achievement in any Science at the 30 level.

19. Janet and Horace Allen Science Scholarship

  • Chosen by Advanced Education and Technology
  • Applications must be filled out and mailed by June 1st
